MITHRIDATE - The Mirror Stage

Mithridate’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection The Mirror Stage transports the viewer to a surreal infinity orange orchard in Shanghai. Founder and Creative Director Demon Zhang often approaches her collections through a surrealist lens, as seen from the title The Mirror Stage, a psychoanalytic theory by Jacques Lacan which investigates the belief that a child’s self perception develops at six months old, establishing the recognition of themselves in a mirror and thereafter introducing the formation of the ego. 
 
New to this season, Zhang has compressed her inspirations into striking prints ranging from chaotic child crayon drawn pictures, detailed illustrations and bold graphic designs of flaming oranges and swords, mingled with a contrasting colour palette of dull greys and clashing primary tones.
