The Cambridge Satchel Co. was born from a passion for excellence. When Julie Deane CBE and her mum Freda started the company at their kitchen table in Cambridge, they had £600 and one goal – to make enough money to provide Julie’s children with an excellent education and a brighter future.
Since then, collaborations with prestigious designers and retailers including Vivienne Westwood, Comme des Garcons and Melissa have seen The Cambridge Satchel Co. grace catwalks from London to New York, further securing its international acclaim.
The business was built on the Satchel. The most British of bags, it was their first ever product, appropriately inspired by traditional leather school bags from years gone by. Now, the company remains committed to making exceptionally good quality bags that last a lifetime - bags that can carry a lifetime of learning, curiosity, creativity and adventure. It’s why they thrive in Cambridge, a city rich in history and culture, but nevertheless ever looking forward, shaping change and driving progress.
The Cambridge Satchel Co. is committed to preserving exceptional British craftsmanship. All of their products are handcrafted by their highly skilled Makers at their Workshop in the heart of England. Ensuring skill, care and a strong level of craftsmanship goes into every bag, their Makers are at the heart of The Cambridge Satchel Co. DNA.
The company is now a handcrafted-in-Britain worldwide phenomenon selling to over 100 countries. Julie received an OBE in 2014 and a CBE in 2021 for Services to Entrepreneurship.
