Sól Hansdóttir is a anti-disciplinary Icelandic fashion designer working between Reykjavík, Iceland and London. Sól graduated from the MA fashion course at Central Saint Martins where she was granted the L’Oréal Creative Awards for her graduation collection as well as being a L’Oréal pro scholar.
Sól’s work evolves around questioning the systems of control. Theory, method & experimentally led practice to advocate for honest and authentic pieces for evil folk in modern times.
Adaptation of the weird or the eccentric self-fashioning, the spontaneous experimenting & the chaoticly ferocious documentation of the practice results in sculptural & abstract yet familiar garment pieces. Sól uses local resources, up-cycling materials & using deadstock fabrics. All pieces are made by hand in her studio in Reykjavík.
The work is driven by the designer's continuous fascination with man-made systems of authority and a romantic belief in nature as a creative force. The natural system is the only true concept; The ultimate system of control.
