Since launching his eponymous label in 2008, Osman Yousefzada has forged a niche in luxury womenswear with an intellectual approach to design. Designer and Artist, his work runs along the intersection of art and fashion, combining his multi-disciplinary design practice with a strong social commentary.
Having pursued both formal training and an academic education, Yousefzada is an alumni of Central Saint Martins, University of Cambridge and SOAS, London. An inter-disciplinarian, with writer and author titles also under his belt, the OY universe has many spheres all interconnecting by his stance on social justice and brought to the visual art space in his first solo art show – Being Somewhere Else in 2017 at Ikon Gallery – Birmingham. An autobiographical look at migration, inequality and exclusion in 80’s – England, his debut would be followed by collaborative art projects in Europe, Asia and the USA.
An advocate for social sustainability, Yousefzada collections carry a balance of organic to Last Yards fabrics, enlist the expertise of Indian artisan communities; and is distinguished for his sculptural and architectural details to tailored pieces.
