Since 2009, Welsh designer Jayne Pierson has developed a distinctive design language rooted in the ancestral mythology, landscape, heritage and craftsmanship of Wales. Sustainability, circularity and cultural storytelling are core values of the brand, informing both its creative world-building and its commitment to producing fewer, better and more enduring garments.
Drawing deeply upon Welsh mythology and folklore, Pierson’s collections reinterpret the stories and symbolism of Cymru through a contemporary lens. Myth, memory, landscape and identity recur throughout the work, creating a design language that is distinctly Welsh in origin while speaking to an international audience.
Jayne Pierson is proud to be a Global Ambassador for Wales through Lleisiau Cymru – The Voices of Wales, reflecting a longstanding commitment to championing Welsh creativity, culture, design and craftsmanship internationally. For Pierson, this is also deeply personal: her work is informed by generations of Welsh ancestry and a desire to carry its stories, skills and cultural inheritance forward in new forms.
Working from the Jayne Pierson atelier in Carmarthenshire, West Wales, the label operates primarily through bespoke commissions and made-to-order production rather than mass manufacture. Circularity, transparency, stylistic longevity and a quality-over-quantity ethos have underpinned the brand since its inception.
Increasingly central to Pierson’s work is Welsh wool and the potential to reimagine one of Wales’ most culturally significant natural materials for a contemporary future. Current PhD research explores the intersection of Welsh wool, heritage textiles and traditional craftsmanship with material innovation, emerging technologies and circular design. While aspects of this work remain in development, its wider ambition is to explore how Welsh-grown and Welsh-made materials can become part of a new generation of desirable, high-value and environmentally responsible fashion and textiles.
For Pierson, this means connecting landscape, material, maker, mill, designer and wearer; preserving the knowledge embedded within Wales’ textile heritage while exploring what it might become next.
The same philosophy informs the atelier’s approach to longevity. Pieces are conceived as garments for life, with the potential to be repaired, altered or reconfigured as the wearer’s body, circumstances or needs change.
Known for distinctive, directional and often otherworldly design, Jayne Pierson creates bespoke commissions, performance clothing for musicians, celebrity and red-carpet dressing, and individual garments and accessories for editorial, photography, film and multidisciplinary creative projects.
Ultimately, the Jayne Pierson world exists at the intersection of Welsh mythology, ancestral memory, craftsmanship, sustainability and innovation, looking to the past not simply to preserve it, but to imagine what it can become.
Timeless. Transformative. Sustainable.
“Fashion should not cost the Earth. It should honour it.”

About Jayne
Jayne Pierson is a Welsh fashion designer, creative director, filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans fashion, film, music, performance and storytelling. Her work is rooted in Wales and informed by a career that has moved between creative disciplines, cultures and industries.
Born in Wales and educated partly in Dallas, Texas, Pierson initially trained in Performing Arts and Drama before working professionally as a singer-songwriter. Signed to EMI in Los Angeles during the 1990s, she toured extensively with her band, supporting artists including The Jesus Lizard, No Doubt and Hole. Her fascination with performance, image-making, identity and the construction of visual worlds ultimately led her towards fashion.
Returning to education to study Fashion Design, Pierson won the Ecological Design Award at Graduate Fashion Week, establishing an early commitment to sustainability that continues to underpin her practice. She subsequently designed for Alexander McQueen mainline and Vivienne Westwood Gold Label before launching her eponymous label with the British Fashion Council at London Fashion Week in September 2009, selected and curated by Edward Enninful OBE and presented by On|Off at 180 The Strand.
Her work has since crossed fashion, moving image and creative direction. Pierson was recognised by Vogue Italia as a Vogue Talent and received awards for Best Creative Direction and Best Styling at Diane Pernet’s A Shaded View on Fashion Film (ASVOFF) at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Alongside developing her own label, she has worked internationally as a consultant, including projects for Givenchy and Dior.
Pierson later completed an MA in Film and a PGCE/FHEA, extending a practice increasingly concerned with the space between fashion, moving image, sound, narrative and research. Her multidisciplinary approach allows collections to exist beyond garments alone, becoming immersive worlds shaped by film, music, mythology, landscape and performance.
Today, her work is increasingly centred upon Welsh cultural identity, ancestral mythology, sustainability, Welsh wool, material innovation and the future of Welsh design and craftsmanship. Pierson is committed to championing Welsh creativity internationally while exploring how its cultural and material heritage can be reinterpreted for contemporary audiences in her PhD research.
Across each discipline, the connecting thread remains storytelling: using fashion, image, sound and material to create worlds that connect past and future, heritage and innovation, the real and the imagined.
