Knitwear label Electronic Sheep was established in 1998 by NCAD* alumni Brenda Aherne and Helen Delany. The label’s distinctive, signature style comprises illustrative and typographic jacquards based on storylines drawing on the designers’ personal observations and professional design practices. Electronic Sheep are keen collaborators, regularly working with designers, historians and activists, often to the benefit of social initiatives and charitable agencies.
Electronic Sheep have won several design awards since graduating from NCAD. More recently they won a prestigious 2020 IDI award for their collaboration 'Mixed Tape' design. They have also won a culture fund award by Brent 2020 (London Borough of Culture). The designers have produced a knitted tapestry The Kilburn Tapestries for this project which will launch at Brent Museum, London in Autumn 2021. Electronic Sheep's solo exhibition Electrofuse will launch in October 2021 featuring their knitwear, artworks and digital media.
Brenda Aherne and Helen Delany graduated in 1992 from NCAD in Fashion and Visual Communication respectively. Individually, the designers have gained further education at CSM*, SVA*, LSAD* and DMU* which has informed their broad approach to design. The designers have had (and still enjoy) prestigious design industry roles as art directors, knitwear technologists and educators in London, New York, Rome and Munich.
Initially funded by a start-up Guinness award The Hudson Blue for innovation in knitwear technology, Electronic Sheep has developed into a label specialising in imaginative colourful knits. Based in London and Dublin, they have exhibited at London and Paris Fashion Week since 2011. They are currently distributing their knitwear via their online store and to independent sellers in the UK, Europe and Japan.
