Taylor Thompson
Born and raised in Oakland, California, Taylor Thompson is the founder and creative director of 5000, a multidisciplinary design house exploring the intersection of fashion, music, art, and architecture. Rooted in the culture and creativity of the Bay Area, Thompson's work combines the precision of traditional tailoring with the utility of workwear and the attitude of streetwear, creating garments that balance structure with ease.
After leaving Oakland at 18 to pursue fashion in New York City, Thompson immersed himself in the city's creative communities, working alongside artist Desi Santiago before joining renowned costume designer Zaldy Goco. At 19, he became an assistant designer at Hood By Air, where he developed an appreciation for challenging conventional ideas of luxury and silhouette. In 2018, he moved to Paris to work with Marine Serre, further refining his perspective through one of fashion's most progressive studios.
Returning to California, Thompson founded 5000 in 2019, officially launching the label in 2022. 5000 was conceived as a cultural platform; one that uses clothing as a starting point for broader conversations across fashion, music, art, and architecture. Drawing inspiration from architecture, contemporary art, sound, and the diverse communities that shaped him, Thompson approaches fashion as a medium for storytelling, collaboration, and cultural exchange.
In 2026, Thompson relocated to London after being selected for the Paul Smith Foundation Residency, where he is developing the next chapter of 5000 while building relationships across the British and European landscape. The residency has expanded the brand's international outlook, providing a platform to deepen its approach to craftsmanship, production, and creative collaboration.
With an emphasis on seasonless design, refined construction, and responsible production, 5000 presents a modern wardrobe that values longevity over trends. Each collection reflects Thompson's belief that clothing should embody both craftsmanship and lived experience, garments designed to evolve alongside the people who wear them.
Thompson's work has earned international recognition, including being named a finalist for the 2025 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund and an Emerging Designer nominee at the 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards. Today, he continues to expand 5000 internationally, building the brand as a multidisciplinary creative house with fashion at its foundation and community at its core.
