Melissa-Kate
Melissa-Kate is a Birkenhead-born fashion designer creating demi-couture womenswear under the self-proclaimed ‘Hun Couture’. Her work explores ultra-femininity, class&the idea of ‘tackiness’, drawing on the exaggerated glamour of 1950s Hollywood&the unapologetic aesthetic of 00s Scouse WAG culture.
A graduate of Jimmy Choo’s, Melissa-Kate was trained in couture but deliberately subverts its conventions, transforming scrap fabrics, found objects and inexpensive offcuts through couture techniques. Her practice challenges traditional ideas of luxury&value while reflecting her working-class upbringing. Humour is central to the label, reclaiming aesthetics often dismissed as ‘tacky’&celebrating them as expressions of identity&Northern culture.
