Misa Harada’s sartorial journey began with her studies at The Royal College of Art in the mid 1990s, followed by four years designing for royal-appointed milliner Frederick Fox. In 1998, Misa launched her own label at Paris Fashion Week, with her quirky yet elegant designs quickly becoming well known within the fashion and millinery circles.
The Misa Harada label is renowned for its blend of functionality and ornate elegance, as well as her use of traditional couture technique. In her own words, "A hat is the ultimate tool of self-expression, as well as the perfect item to finish off an outfit. My mission is to introduce a taste of haute couture in hats at an affordable price and encourage more people to wear hats." She has a deep love of sculpture, mixed-medium art, and textiles, which is eminently visible in all of her Misa Harada creations. Her unique style has been championed by former collaborators Thierry Mugler, Yohji Yamamoto and Bora Aksu.
Misa’s work has been displayed at the V&A exhibition ‘Stephen Jones – An Anthology of Hats’ , as well as the Pola Museum in Tokyo, where Misa's retrospective exhibition, 'Hats Off', was displayed in November 2015. The Misa Harada label has also seen regular coverage in British and German Vogue, with Misa recently providing a glamorous bespoke headpiece for top model Cara Delevigne, and a glamorous piece for Cindy Crawford in her signature 'veiled boater' style, featured on the front cover of Tatler. She has designed bespoke headpiece for celebrities such as Janet Jackson, Mickey Rourke, Jennifer Aniston, and the Rolling Stones. Her clientele also includes British royalty, known for their statement-making hats and fascinators: Misa's 'Love' hat recently graced the Royal Garden Party by way of Princess Eugenie.
Today, Misa Harada's modern and compelling millinery collections are sold in over 120 retail outlets across fifteen countries.
