Pitchfork - "On her full-length debut, the provocative producer also raps, smartly using her voice as a tool in her quest to dislodge gender binaries and power hierarchies." Angel-Ho questions the structures of gender performance and binaries and plays with them in a way that deconstructs identities categories. They are part of the artists who challenge gender and sexuality through visual and multi-visceral performances.

Black Visions Collective
BLVC is committed to a long term vision in which ALL Black lives not only matter, but are able to thrive. What we know to be true in order to create this world is that oppressed people, especially Black people, need to build collective power in order to create systems transformation. Through the development of powerful strategic campaigns, we seek to expand the power of Black people across the Twin Cities metro area and Minnesota. This can look like delivering mobilization and action goals as part of a national coalition in which Black lives are centered, but it most often looks like visioning and leading targeted collaborative local campaigns that advance a concrete impact for people’s lives here, while also advancing a shift in public narrative that connects to transformative long-term change.

Leigh Davids was a fearless, trail-blazing, black, transgender, sex worker activist based in Cape Town, South Africa. Davids has been a sex worker for 24 years, having run away from the antagonism of her home at the young age of 14. In recent years Davids has given much of her time leading SistaazHood, a support group for transgender sex workers who live on the streets and under the bridges in the city. Over the last 6 years the group has developed into the political home for about 40 trans women sex workers who generously share resources, advice and support, spanning the intersection of HIV, homelessness and the criminalisation of sex work.
May Leigh rest in power.

The Marsha P. Johnson Institute Marsha P. Johnson was an activist, self-identified drag queen, performer, and survivor. She was a prominent figure in the Stonewall uprising of 1969. Marsha went by “Black Marsha” before settling on Marsha P. Johnson. The “P” stood for “Pay It No Mind,” which is what Marsha would say in response to questions about her gender. It is the consideration of who “Black Marsha” was that inspired The Marsha P. Johnson Institute.

ABOUT LOVEDALE 2023 marks the 200 year existence of the Lovedale Press which was founded in 1823 by locals, leaders and Christian Missionaries. The Press was destroyed first during the Frontier Wars of 1834 and again in 1846 the building caught fire and a section with a number of books, manuscripts and other valuable records was destroyed during the war of the Axe. On both these occasions the Press was re-established. In 2020 the Press is under threat again and this time the battle is financial. The press focused on religious and educational publications but by the late 1800s it was publishing the works of black creative writers [Soga], composers [Enoch Sontonga] artists [Pemba] and became the publishing centre of the black intellectual movement who contributed several classic works of literature like, Buzani Kubawo, Ityala la Mawele and Ingqumbo Yeminyanya, which was turned into a poplar drama series in 1991.
