Drawing inspiration from elements from various time periods and cultures across Africa, Kìléntár bridges the gap between traditional African designs and contemporary fashion. Working closely with skilled weavers, dyers and other skilled hands, Kìléntár promotes artisanal excellence with designs reflective of forgotten histories. From Nigeria to Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire and beyond, Kìléntár channels generations of African techniques such as traditional dyeing and weaving methods to create one-of-a-kind garments displaying modern femininity, to ensure that our African traditional craft and heritage lives on.
Born and raised in the United Kingdom, Michelle Adepoju grew up with Nigerian parents who valued their tradition and imbibed strong links to her rich Yoruba culture.
After graduating with a degree in Public Relations and Marketing Communications, she moved to Nigeria to more deeply explore West African countries such as Burkina Faso, Togo, Senegal, and Ivory Coast.
During her journey, she was inspired by the artisans’ passion and mastery of their craftsmanship passed down over generations.
In 2019 she drew inspiration from her travels and birthed the Kìléntár brand, paying homage to artisanal crafts by interpreting their work through modern design. Michelle honours the delicate feminine silhouette by taking people on a journey through West Africa through fashion.
