Valery Kovalska started her career in fashion at the young age of 18.
Valery began working as a stylist for music videos, film, and Ukrainian TV while she was studying Art History at the National University of Culture and Arts in Kiev. She was creating intricate costumes and wardrobe pieces for film and music stars, like a dress for the singer Jamala with a 5m train made out of flower petals.
After University, Valery opened her own small atelier to handle the growing production needs for her business as a stylist. She soon realized that all of her early experiences had given her the necessary network and confidence to design a full collection of her own. So she began work on her first collection which included styles for both Men and Women, which reflected the gender makeup of her clients as a stylist and she has continued to love creating clothing for Men and Women alike.
Valery debuted her first collection for her namesake brand, VALERY KOVALSKA, at the age of 20 in March of 2010 at Ukrainian Fashion Week. Her collection included styles for both Men and Women and she chose to present her unisex runway show on the day of the Mens collections.
The collection was dedicated to birds. Birds and the idea of personal flight have been a constant inspiration and a continual thread throughout all of Valery's subsequent collections and a modern architectural version of a swallow is a key component of her brand's logo as well.
Valery's innovative multimedia runway show for her first collection in Kiev was well received by the press and she was invited to do a followup show in Moscow.
The following season she decided to show her 2nd collection as a part of a new and daring fashion week called Kiev Fashion Days, now known as Mercedes-Benz Kiev Fashion Days. This same season she was also invited to participate in a runway show highlighting young emerging brands during London Fashion Week.
With each new experience, Valery was building her confidence as a designer, building and training a skilled team of pattern makers and tailors, and developing her distinct brand aesthetics.
In 2012 she temporarily suspended her namesake brand of VALERY KOVALSKA in order to explore a collaboration with a new business partner and a French cosmetics company for the launch of an international lifestyle brand called L'UVE; which included Womens designer clothing, accessories, and cosmetics. They opened a flagship store for the brand in Kiev . The L'UVE store was Valery's first experience with opening retail location and the collaboration proved to be an invaluable learning experience for her.
At the end of 2013, Valery decided to dedicate herself exclusively to the relaunch of her namesake brand and launched her International wholesale in Paris with a collection for SS14. She followed with sales presentations of her FW14 collection in both NY and in Paris and has continued to grow her global client list ever since which includes retail partnerships in around 18 countries.
