Born and raised in Madeira Island (Portugal), Maria do Carmo first left her home to attend Central Saint Martins, in London. Graduating with a BA in Fashion Design Womenswear, she worked in houses such as A.F.Vandevorst and Acne Studios, in Antwerp and Paris respectively.
The Pandemic brought her back to her Mother Island, where she found the right moment, environment and inspiration to give birth to her own brand, Maria Do Carmo Studio.
Through the use of Upcycling, Maria Do Carmo Studio produces highly creative and sustainable collections that include accessories made from all sorts of found materials. Using these resources, she creates unique and exclusive pieces based on a free design process, where the material is the base of both concept and conception.
Her collections are surrounded by the ideas of sensuality, fluidity, texture, color and experimental use of materials in creative and unexpected ways. The Island and its habitants serve as a mirror to this idealistic paradise, encapsulating her unique expression of femininity and pure naivety, where beauty and play erupt into an endless summer.
