Womenswear designer Emma Charles launches her debut collection for AW16. Charles’ elegant aesthetic, inspired by vintage menswear tailoring, encompasses a soft femininity with clean lines. A youthful energy is expressed by the use of bright colours, luxurious fabrics and innovative application techniques.
'I design for a strong, outgoing woman who has perfected the high/low, masculine/feminine balance. This comes from my love of vintage menswear, beautiful luxurious fabrics, high quality finishes and a playful yet sophisticated elegant attitude. I find all this together creates something sexy but very understated.'
Originally from North East England, Charles has gained a wealth of experience since moving to London in 2010. Upon graduating from The University of Westminster in 2014, Charles launched her career with a creative role at ‘Preen by Thornton Bregazzi’.
Previous design experience with Tom Ford in London and Stella McCartney, via the New York Press Office, further informed Charles’ appreciation for luxury craftsmanship and global positioning.
