Pachacuti

DESIGNER NAME: Carry Somers

BACKGROUND: Somers is from the UK and studied for an MA in Native American Studies at the University of Essex.

TRADEMARK PIECE: “This season we have taken a fresh look at 20th century classic and utilitarian hats, from Italian moped helmets to aviator hats. Our deerstalker hats epitomise the modern take on classics for which Pachacuti is known, combining structured felt with bold, stand-up bows, pheasant feathers and Dashing Tweeds earflaps featuring reflective tweed stripes.”

IDEAL CLIENT: “Someone who believes that true luxury incorporates sustainability and ethical practices in the creation of the product.”

THE COLLECTION: “‘Supernova’ is an exciting collection of fresh new shapes and strong cool colours featuring Dashing Tweeds reflective threads.

The ‘Spiced Jazz’ collection offers rich, warm colours, neat narrow brims and sharp details, perfect for making a smooth statement anywhere from the stage of the jazz club to the streets of Soho.

‘The Peacock Revolution’ offers deep, rich jewel colours which are combined with flamboyant feathers and silk ribbons with a nod to the dandies of the past.

The ‘Proper Country’ collection is a luxurious mix of earthy colours and natural trims. New takes on the fedora shape provide perfect, practical hats for walking and hunting while beautiful pheasant feathers will add quirkiness to any countryside activity. Perfect hats for prowling both countryside and city.

Our first range of fascinators combines hand-woven horsehair, natural wool felt and sprays of Scottish hunting estate feathers to add a modern finishing touch for a trip to the winter races.”

CULTURAL INFLUENCES: “One of our influences this season has been the Peacock Revolution, a 1960s cultural movement which, influenced by the flourishing rock movement, paved the way for men to break out from conservative style and experiment with bold colours and tailoring.  Inspired by this cultural shift in men's dress, Pachacuti has created opulent, flamboyant styles which can be worn by men and women alike.”

PLANS FOR 2013: “Pachacuti has been selected as a pilot for the new World Fair Trade Organisation Fair Trade Guarantee System and we are currently working on the new certification.  We are also working on a major ethical fashion show which will take place in Rio in May 2013.”
