Hemyca

DESIGNER NAMES: Helen Clinch and Myra Nigris
BACKGROUND: Hemyca is a British brand based in London. Helen Clinch is from London while Myra Nigris is Italian. Helen and Myra met while both studying at the London College of Fashion. They bonded over their love of the art of luxury fashion design; a tradition passed down through family generations, as Helen’s family worked in Savile Row while Myra’s family had an atelier in Italy.
In February 2007, after spending a few years training with designers Roland Mouret and Ben de Lisi, Helen and Myra launched the Hemyca brand with a vision to create a globally recognised brand synonymous with luxury and quality.
SIGNATURES: “Hemyca’s vision of timeless, elegant and modern luxury is woven into each of our collections. Through complex cutting, precision tailoring with exceptional detailing we create structural silhouettes that mould and shape the body, giving Hemyca’s designs a distinctive edge within the luxury market.”
TRADEMARK PIECE: “Hemyca is known for creating luxury investment statement pieces such as coats and jackets with recognisable detailing paired with stylish separates.”
IDEAL CLIENT: “We are both inspired by confident historical female icons, with the likes of Coco Chanel at the top of the list.”
THE COLLECTION: “The AW13 collection is inspired by a woman warrior, a modern Joan of Arc, the strength, the courage, as well as the opulent and luxurious fabrics that come with such a woman.”
CULTURAL INFLUENCES: “Architecture is a big influence when we design the collection, the contrast of old and new. The Tate Modern is a constant source of inspiration and we love visiting exhibitions in London and Europe. We have a wide range of music in the studio. We love strong edgy females and are currently listening to Solange’s new album as well as Santigold.”
PLANS FOR 2013: “As well as investment to take the brand to a truly global stage, we are also looking at several other projects we have been offered such as interior design. Watch this space.”
